Deacon of Hospitality
Since 2022
Who I am:
My husband Steve and I have been married since 1982. We have two grown daughters and three grandsons together. Plus, I have two grown stepchildren with five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. I retired in January 2021 after working for 33 years as an environmental engineer at Tinker Air Force Base. It was a great job, but retirement is the best! Now I spend way too much time playing golf! I love reading, working out, listening to podcasts, spending time with my grandkids, and hosting our Thursday night Community Group!
What I do:
I want to make folks feel truly welcome and at home at Bridgeway. I have been to churches that made me feel slightly uncomfortable or the people were aloof, and I want everyone at Bridgeway to know that we are happy they are with us, and hope we make them feel loved enough to come again. I feel like the hospitality team (greeters, connections area, and cafe) are usually the ones that give the first impression of the church, and I want the impression that we give to be the right one! Jesus welcomes all and so should we.
What God did:
There was a time in my life when I was feeling hopeless and depressed. I was constantly worried about a close family member that was turning away from God, and who was making very poor life choices. I turned to God for help, and I sought out Christian counseling to learn how to not enable the person's behavior. I experienced the peace of God and began to be filled with hope. Now, although I sometimes worry about the loved one, I have learned to trust more fully in God and his goodness, and have continued hope and joy!
